action

season 1

The protagonist is the policeman James Gordon, who is relatively new to the Gotham City Police Department . Together with his partner, the corrupt and cynical Harvey Bullock, he wants to take on Gotham's booming underworld. But the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne quickly shows him how utopian it is: the police, politics and the mafia pass the crime on to a petty criminal in order to have the case resolved as quickly as possible. When Gordon discovers the collaboration, he is forced by Mafia boss Falcone to prove his secrecy and kill his indirect informant Oswald Cobblepot . Gordon apparently obeys this order, but only pushes Cobblepot into the Gotham River. This then infiltrates incognito into the network of the competing mafia boss Salvatore Maroni. The Major Crimes Unit - consisting of Detectives Montoya and Allen - is investigating the disappearance of their informant and wants to arrest Gordon on suspicion of murder. Cobblepot presents itself as lively, which incites Falcones henchmen, including Victor Zsasz, on Gordon. He finds two allies in Montoya and Allen, and finally Bullock also takes his side. They are captured by Falcone, but he ultimately lets them live. In a scene that is only visible to the viewer, it becomes clear that Falcone and Cobblepot are secretly working together - the latter, as a spy at Maroni, ensured that Falcone ceded a lucrative building plot in Arkham to Falcone and murdered a subordinate Falcones who wanted to take a coup. In return, Cobblepot asked to keep his "friend" Gordon alive. He speculates that one day Gordon will need his help - and then owe him a favor.

Meanwhile, Gordon manages to achieve success in the corrupt police station - so he can prove that the drug investigator Arnold Flass and his team actually sold drugs themselves and were involved in the murder of a man. Police chief Loeb , however, does not seem interested in whipping up the force. Gordon is even ordered to work as a security guard at Arkham Asylum and can only return to the GCPD after another criminal is caught and at the instigation of Captain Sarah Essen. In Arkham, however, he met the doctor Leslie Thompkins, with whom Gordon begins a relationship and who joins the GCPD as a coroner. Loeb does not want to let Gordon win, however, and lets him face the case of a serial killer who murders the relatives of every police officer who finds out about him. The man called "ogre" knows nothing of Gordon's liaison with Thompkins and kidnaps his ex-fiancée Barbara Kean. This is freed by Jim, but the ogre had made her kill her parents. In a therapy session with Thompkins, Barbara goes nuts and tries to kill Thompkins, but is overwhelmed by this.

Meanwhile, Maroni has found out that Cobblepot works for Falcone. The informer can just escape and gets a nightclub from Falcone to manage. Both crime bosses want no open conflict to break out, but Cobblepot, also known as the "penguin" because of his looks, makes sure of that. In this gang war, the Mafia boss Fish Mooney shoots Maroni, but is then pushed off a skyscraper by Penguin. With Falcone deciding to retire, Pinguin becomes Gotham's new crime boss, or as he calls himself, the King of Gotham.

In addition to Gordon and Cobblepot, the series also focuses on Selina Kyle and the young Bruce Wayne. Selina claims to have watched the Wayne murder and uses her information to “buy her way out” from Gordon so that she does not end up in a juvenile detention center. Meanwhile, Bruce tries to find the real killer of his parents, and comes across questionable machinations by their company. Wayne Enterprises' board of directors doesn't like the boy's investigation and sends an old friend of Bruce's butler Alfred to find out what the boy knows. After Selina killed him, a board member reveals that Bruce's parents knew about the machinations and had apparently accepted them.

There are also other characters known from the comics, such as the Riddler , the Joker , Harvey Dent , Poison Ivy , Scarecrow and Lucius Fox .

The first season ends with a cliffhanger: Bruce and Alfred use a hidden remote control in the library of Wayne Manor to discover a hidden cellar that is reminiscent of the Bath Cave.

season 2

In the second season, more new characters will be introduced, most of which were taken over from the comics, and well-known ones expanded; with the alleged philanthropist Theo Galavan, a superordinate antagonist appears for the first time; Galavan and his assistant sister Tabitha belong to the secret order of the old Dumas family, which about 200 years ago was one of the five most powerful in Gotham, along with the Waynes, among others. Due to an incident, all Dumas were banished and the family name practically wiped out. Therefore, the Order is now traveling to Gotham to kill Bruce Wayne as an act of revenge. Theo and Tabitha are, so to speak, the pioneers. In order to present himself to the general public as a local hero, Galavan secretly arranges a prisoner escape in the Arkham Asylum, the escaped include Barbara and the eighteen-year-old Jerome Valeska, a circus employee who was introduced in only one episode in the first season, who his mother, the Snake dancer, killed in a fit of anger and turned out to be a completely insane psychopath, who is very reminiscent of the character of the Joker. The escaped people together form the maniax and carry out several terrorist attacks in the city, with Jerome appearing as the leader, including on the GCPD headquarters. After Jerome has also killed his biological father, a blind clairvoyant, he takes Bruce Wayne hostage at a fundraising gala, but is deceived by Galavan and stabbed to death in supposed self-defense.

Galavan then introduces himself and then his niece, Silver St. Cloud, Bruce. This should turn his head so that he trusts her, only to break his heart. Furthermore, Galavan claims to know the real identity of the murderer of Bruce's parents and to have evidence for it, but denies Bruce the information. Bruce, who is now trained in fighting by Alfred, tricks together with Selina Silver and thus comes up with the name of the murderer. He looks for this alone and wants to shoot him, but ultimately does not and leaves the gun lying around. A few seconds after Bruce left the apartment, the killer shoots himself.

Galavan is now using the new underworld king Oswald Cobblepot to kill the candidates for the upcoming mayoral election and to commit a fictitious attack on himself in public. Galavan then wins the election for mayor. The leverage for Oswald was his mother, locked up by Galavan, the only person who ever loved Oswald. After a failed attempt to free her, she is stabbed by Tabitha, for which Oswald swears bloody revenge on the Galavan siblings. He finally succeeds in helping Gordon to rescue Bruce, who has been kidnapped by the Dumas Order, which has since arrived. The Galavan present is brought to the river by Oswald and Gordon, where he is beaten half to death by the former with a baseball bat and then shot by Gordon. Tabitha and Silver can escape in the meantime. That same night, Leslie reveals to Jim that she is pregnant, whereupon he proposes to her. The defeat of Galavan concludes the first half of season two.

Over the course of the season, Oswald happens to be friends with GCPD forensic scientist Edward Nygma, who has a neurotic affinity for puzzles. After Oswald hides with him for some time, he is carelessly caught by the police and taken to the Arkham Asylum for the murder of Galavan, where he meets the new facility manager, Prof. Dr. Hugo Strange. Strange and his assistant, Miss Ethel Peabody, not only maintain questionable treatments, mostly electric shocks, but also a secret underground facility under Arkham called Indian Hill, which is apparently a division of Wayne Enterprises.

While Strange brainwashes Oswald, which appears to change his malicious personality in a positive way, the delusional Edward Nygma drifts more and more into paranoia. After trying for a long time to impress GCPD archivist Miss Kristen Kringle, he eventually gets together with her due to his schizophrenia-induced personality change, but accidentally strangles her in an argument after she finds out that Ed is her ex-boyfriend and police officer Jealousy killed after beating Kristen multiple times. Gordon's friend, coroner Dr. Leslie Thompkins, known as Lee, who was friends with Kristen and wonders about her disappearance, asks Gordon to clarify this. This, in turn, leads Ed to wrongly believe that Gordon is explicitly on his trail. In order to get rid of Gordon, Ed files him with the murder of a newly recruited member of the special forces, whereupon Jim has to go to Blackgate Prison. Assuming that Jim will never leave Blackgate, he advises Lee to leave with the unborn baby, which she does with a heavy heart. Jim later learns from Harvey that Lee lost the baby. With the help of Carmine Falcone, Harvey frees Jim from Blackgate and continues to help him prove his innocence.

After Jim could reveal Ed, he comes to Arkham, where Oswald has already been released. He met his biological father, Elijah Van Dahl, by chance at his mother's grave. Oswald accompanies him to his estate in order to live there, but is met with massive dislike by his stepmother, step sister and step brother. They want to poison Oswald before Elijah can bequeath everything to him, but Elijah unknowingly drinks the poison that was intended for Oswald.

Since the property now belongs to his stepmother, but he has nowhere else to go, they take him on as a household worker. After Oswald accidentally discovers the carafe with the poison, this reverses his brainwashing, whereupon, in revenge for the murder of his beloved father, he literally processes his step-siblings into meatloaf, serves this to his ignorant stepmother and kills them after his revelation.

Meanwhile, Strange manages to revive the dead in Indian Hill, including Galavan. Due to an amnesia, he now considers himself to be the crusader and alleged angel of death Azrael, but is immediately completely torn to pieces by Oswald using a rocket launcher and thus finally killed. The other experiments are able to escape from Indian Hill, led by the also resurrected Fish Mooney, who can now impose her will on people with the touch of a hand. Through Strange, who was a former acquaintance of Thomas Wayne and the client for his murder, Bruce and Alfred receive a tip that should lead them to the mysterious council of the owls, where Bruce hopes to learn more about his father.

In comparison to the first season, the second season more often uses subplots to explain the origins of some villains from the Batman comics, for example Mr. Freeze and Firefly.

season 3

It has been 6 months since the end of the second season; Jim went looking for Lee, but discovered that she now has a new boyfriend. Upon his return to Gotham, he fills the void by catching Strange's monster as a bounty hunter, as he has not resumed his position as a detective since Nygma put him in jail. Former Wayne Enterprises employee Lucius Fox, now a friend of Bruce and Alfred who knew Bruce's father, is the new crime forensic scientist at GCPD after Nygma's arrest. Oswald incites the citizens to incite against Fish Mooney and their monsters and Barbara and Tabitha now run a nightclub, The Sirens Club.

After Oswald Fish successfully chased Mooney out of town, he runs for mayor. In order to boost his election campaign, he ensures that his friend Ed Nygma is released from Arkham. Thanks to Ed, Oswald actually wins the election and he then appoints Ed as his chief of staff.

Meanwhile, Barbara and Tabitha receive a visit from Jervis Tetch, a hypnotist, who has just traveled to town. Tetch is looking for his sister Alice, whom he has taken care of since the death of both of their parents and who fled from him. Tetch assigns Gordon to find Alice and tells him that Alice was a patient at Indian Hill. That is why she has a virus in her blood that brings out the worst qualities in a person. Jim finds Alice and tries to protect her from Jervis, but Jervis accidentally stakes her and blames Gordon for inciting her against him. Tetch swears relentless revenge on the city of Gotham; he wants to poison the city with his sister's blood virus.

Meanwhile, Lee travels to Gotham with her fiancé Mario Calvi to get married. It quickly turns out that Mario is the son of Carmine Falcone. When Lee runs into Jim by chance, he also learns about it. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Mario's jealousy towards Jim grows into a delusional state, since he believes Lee would still love Jim. It turns out that Mario is infected with the virus, but nobody knows.

Meanwhile, Jervis undertakes further attacks to poison the city and take revenge on Jim, but Jim manages, also by finally rejoining the GCPD, to arrest Jervis and consign him to Arkham.

Jim finally learns from Jervis that he poisoned Mario. Jim then looks for Mario, who marries Lee that day. Shortly after the wedding, jealousy overcomes Mario and tries to stab Lee from behind. At the last second Jim appears and shoots Mario with his knife raised. Since Lee didn't see the knife, she doesn't believe Jim and thinks he killed Mario out of jealousy, which she learns to hate him for.

Eventually, however, Lee also realizes that Mario was infected when Jervis reveals to her that that was exactly his plan; To poison Mario so that Jim would be forced to kill him so that Lee would hate Jim. He couldn't just poison Lee. Mario's death concludes the first half of season three.

Meanwhile, Ed has met a woman named Isabella who looks like Kristen Kringle and with whom he falls in love again. Oswald, however, has now developed romantic feelings for Ed, which is why he secretly kills Isabella and blames his former henchman Butch Gilzean for the fact that Butch hates Ed. Ed kidnaps and tortures Butch and Tabitha, who are now together, and chops off Tabitha's hand like Oswald did with Butch before. When Butch makes contradicting statements about Isabella's murder (he allegedly shot her, in fact her brake lines were cut), Ed realizes that Butch couldn't be the killer. Barbara, who learned of Oswald's love for Ed through Oswald's housekeeper, concludes that Oswald killed Isabella. She forms an alliance with Ed to destroy Oswald to become Queen of Gotham, despite promising Tabitha to kill Ed for her severed hand.

Meanwhile, Jim and Harvey face a new case that is extremely bizarre; Since Jerome's death, an ever-growing cult has formed that reveres Jerome like a Messiah. So they want to resurrect Jerome, whose body was in the possession of Indian Hill. After the first failed attempt, the ringleader of Jerome's followers cuts off his face and wears it as a mask to show that anyone can be Jerome. However, Jerome actually wakes up, kills the ringleader, and fixes his face with a stapler. Jerome remembers trying to kill Bruce Wayne before he died, so he kidnaps him to a fair where he plans to execute him in front of his followers. Bruce manages to break free and defeats Jerome in a duel when Jim and Alfred show up to save him. Jerome is then taken to Arkham, where his face is sewn back on.

Ed manages by means of ingenious maneuvers to use Oswald's paranoia against him and make him lose the voice of the people. When he makes Oswald believe that Barbara had kidnapped him, Ed lures him into a trap. Ed takes Oswald to the pier, where he shoots him in the stomach and pushes him into the river.

Ed then tries to find out who he can be without Oswald, which makes him a complete Riddler. Oswald, meanwhile, is rescued from the river by Ivy Pepper, Selina Kyle's friend, who has been turned into an adult by the touch of one of Strand's monsters, and forms with Victor Fries, aka Mr. Freeze, and Selina's friend, Bridgit Pike, aka Firefly , an army of freaks to kill Ed and Barbara.

Meanwhile, Jim receives a surprising visit from his father's brother, Frank Gordon. Through this Jim learns about the secret organization, the Council of Owls, which has provided the secret rulers of Gotham for centuries. Bruce and Alfred also learned through information from Hugo Strange that the Council of Owls had intended Hugo Strange to have Thomas Wayne killed, which is why they and Selina investigated the council for weeks. The council now wants to use the Alice Tetch virus to poison the whole city in order to destroy Gotham. At the same time, the council has Bruce kidnapped for brainwashing by a shaman working for the council. Its place in Gotham is taken by a clone created by Strange. However, Selina notices this and the clone, which will soon die, disappears. After Frank Gordon commits suicide, Jim, Harvey, and Alfred try to prevent the Owl Council's plan.

After Jim got Barbara to find out information that is important to him on this matter, she and Ed plan to overthrow the council themselves and take control of Gotham themselves.

When Bruce returns to Gotham, he is a servant of the council and meets its real leader, Ra's Al Ghul. He kills the council members and wants Bruce to be his successor. This was the initial spark that led Bruce's parents to die. Jim finds out that Jervis Tetch's blood could be used as an antidote for the virus. Ed and Barbara kidnap him for this very reason. Barbara wants control of the city, Ed wants Oswald, who is currently in police custody. Jim and Harvey want to swap Oswald for Tetch. Ed wants to take Oswald to the pier again, but since Oswald suspected this, he called Firefly and Freeze beforehand; the latter freezes Ed, who will then become the main attraction in Oswald's new club.

Lucius Fox has now been able to develop an antidote for the virus, which could stop the destruction of Gotham. Alfred followed Bruce to Ra's Al Ghul. There he manages to get Bruce to stab Alfred, but then Bruce breaks his brainwashing. Bruce can revive Alfred with water from the nearby Lazarus Pit, which Ra's said she had reborn several times.

Season 4

Three months after the Alice Tetch virus was destroyed, Gotham's crime rate has fallen by 57% thanks to Oswald's new licensing system for controlled crime. Jim turns to the only man he believes can stop Oswald, Carmine Falcone. However, he does not see a return to Gotham, instead his daughter Sofia accompanies Jim back to Gotham to win Oswald's trust.

Meanwhile, a crazy fan of the Riddler freed him from Oswald's Iceberg Lounge, where he was on ice. After discovering that cryosleep has damaged his ingenious intellect, he leaves behind his admirer, who is later killed by Oswald.

After a pitiful attempt to get by on his own, Ed meets Butch Gilzean, who, after Barbara shot him, was dumped in a swamp contaminated with Indian Hill trash, which mutated him. He doesn't remember his identity or anything, which is why he trusts Ed. Butch also believes his name is Solomon Grundy. The two go to a boxing club, where Grundy is supposed to fight to win money for Ed's brain healing, so that in return he can help Grundy with his condition. There the two meet Lee Thompkins, who, after the boxing club owner is killed, becomes a kind of leader for the slum area. Ed stays with her and befriends her. She later reveals to him that his inhibited intellect is now only psychosomatically blocked. Ed then realizes that his intellect is inextricably linked to his Riddler persona. Since he would most likely kill Lee as Riddler, he tries to suppress this because he now likes Lee very much.

Bruce and Alfred, meanwhile, have researched Ra's Al Ghul and found that Ra's is over 2,000 years old and heads a League of Shadows. You come into possession of the only object that can kill Ra's, a special dagger, also over 2,000 years old. With this, Bruce kills Ra's, which becomes his first murder, after which he falls into depression for a while.

At the same time, a new serial killer appears in Gotham, the masked Professor Pyg. After Harvey killed numerous cops with his decisions when converting a building, Sofia blackmailed the mayor so that after Harvey's demotion, Jim became the new captain of the GCPD. After a few failures, Jim manages to arrest Pyg.

Sofia, who has meanwhile gained Oswald's trust, shows him that she is the patron of an orphanage in which Oswald takes care of the boy Martin.

It soon becomes apparent, however, that Sofia is only on her own side; she herself wants to become the Queen of Gotham, which is why Oswald contacts Falcone, who comes to pick her up. However, Falcone is shot by an assassin. As it turns out, this is the escaped contract killer Lazlo Valentin, alias Professor Pyg. This was used by Sofia to get rid of her father and to portray Harvey as a bad captain, as she believes that with Jim as captain she would definitely have the GCPD in her hand. After her plan is revealed, Sofia shoots Pyg.

Sofia demands Jim to arrest Oswald for the murder of Martin, but the truth is that Oswald made Sofia believe that he killed him so she could not use him as leverage. Martin was safely brought out of town by Victor Zsasz, but since Zsasz does not know who killed Falcone and believes it was Oswald, he blackens him out, whereupon Oswald ends up in Arkham again.

Ed's Riddler persona, who can temporarily take over his mind, sends an encrypted letter to Oswald, from which Oswald learns that the Riddler part of Ed wants to ally with him and help him break out. Therefore Oswald asks Ed by letter to meet. Before Ed even wants to be instructed himself, Oswald pronounces the Riddler's name, which frees him and allows him to take permanent control of Ed. Shortly afterwards the Riddler frees Oswald and the two want to bring down Sofia Falcone together with Jim and Lee. After several back and forth, Lee puts Sofia into a coma with a head shot.

Soon after, there is a huge prison eruption in Arkham; the masterminds are Jervis Tetch, aka Mad Hatter, young Jonathan Crane, who has hallucinations of scarecrows due to an overdose of an anxiety-inducing toxin, and Jerome Valeska. Valeska has a plan to drive the city crazy, so Jervis is supposed to hypnotize the whole city, which Jim can prevent. After Jerome has shot his uncle, he finds out where his previously unknown, identical twin brother is. Jeremiah Valeska, a brilliant architect and engineer, works under the name Xander Wilde and hides together with his extremely loyal bodyguard and personal assistant Ecco in an underground bunker in front of Jerome, whom he has feared since childhood. Jerome tries to kidnap his brother, but fails thanks to Jim and Harvey. In order to get at his brother and Bruce Wayne, Jerome takes some high-ranking politicians of Gotham hostage. At the same time Jerome wants to fly a zeppelin over the city, which is supposed to distribute a poison gas created by Crane, which makes every victim crazy. For this Jerome gets the help of Mr. Freeze, Firefly, Oswald and Grundy, or Butch, who thanks to Tabitha at least has his sanity back. Oswald, however, betrays the Legion of the Terrible to Jim, for fear of Jerome's megalomania. That's why Tetch and Crane lock Oswald into the Zeppelin without further ado. However, he can knock the pilot unconscious and steer the zeppelin into the open sea. Jerome's hostage situation goes wrong when his hostages are freed and Jim chases him to the roof of a high-rise building, where he shoots Jerome, who then laughs and falls from the roof and dies. Jeremiah finds a present in his bunker again. After opening it, he gets a special mixture of Crane's poison gas right in his face.

Jeremiah, driven to outdo his brother, wants to turn Gotham into the place where he feels at home; a maze. That's why he wants to distribute countless energy generators in the city after he has been able to convert them into bombs. He also succeeds in this; he blows the bridges to the mainland, whereby Gotham is cut off from the outside world.

The fourth season ends with a cliffhanger: After Ed and Lee were together for a short time, they stab each other from behind. Oswald has her brought to Hugo Strange, who previously restored Butch to his physical condition. Butch is immediately shot by Oswald, with which he wants to get revenge on Tabitha for the murder of his mother. At the same time, Jeremiah sneakily shoots Selina, who is then in mortal danger.

Season 5

87 days after the bridges were blown, Gotham has been declared a no man's land and has been abandoned by the government. Few stayed behind, including Jim and the GCPD, which tries to protect at least the poor, sick and weak. However, most of Gotham fell territorially to the gangs, including Oswald, who owns the largest estates and most of the weapons. From the town hall he runs an ammunition factory. In order to get revenge on Oswald for the murder of Butch, Tabitha tries to shoot Oswald with one of his cartridges, which however tend to cause jamming, whereupon Oswald can stab Tabitha and thus kill.

With the help of Bruce Wayne, Lucius Fox was able to set up the Haven residential complex, in which the refugees are kept as safe as possible. However, this is blown up by a stranger.

Ed, who is apparently still alive, seems to be sleepwalking at night and is trying to find out what is wrong with him. He can never remember anything he did. After leaving himself a note, he finds out it was he who shot Haven's gas pipes with a rocket launcher and is shocked.

Jim receives support from a number of soldiers led by his former army comrade Eduardo Dorrance. This has received orders to stamp out the criminal properties of Gotham so that Gotham can be reunited with the mainland.

In the hunt for Ed Nygma, however, Jim finds out that Ed Haven only blew up because Hugo Strange had implanted a control chip in his brain on Eduardo's order. Eduardo's superior, Theresa Walker, who had refused to provide help for months, is responsible for Haven's destruction. This was done because Walker refused to allow Jim to use Haven to create the impression that Gotham was worth saving. Eduardo tries to force Jim into a duel by revealing that he has Lee Thompkins under his control. In a duel, Jim Eduardo is critically wounded and Lee can be freed. Later, however, Eduardo is brought by Walker to Hugo Strange, who turns him into Bane; although he now has to wear a breathing mask permanently, he is now superhumanly strong.

Barbara reveals to everyone that she is pregnant after a one night stand with Jim. She wants to disappear from Gotham with Selina because she is afraid that Jim might take the baby away from her. That's why they team up with Oswald and Ed, who also want to get out of Gotham, which is why they build a submarine. In return, Barbara and Selina refrain from killing Oswald for the murder of Tabitha. To make matters worse, Barbara chooses Lee of all people to be the midwife.

In the meantime, Jeremiah Valeska has been working hard on his next steps. He lures Bruce into a trap by trying to re-enact the night of his parents' murder. He is the killer to create an emotional bond between himself and Bruce. In the lead roles are involuntarily Jim and Lee. With Selina's help, Bruce is able to free the two of them and pursue Jeremiah all the way to the Ace Chemicals chemical plant. There, Jeremiah falls into a chemical tank during a deadly fist fight. He suffers from severe burns and shows no more brain activity.

After several weeks, Oswald and Ed are almost finished building the SS Gertrud. Barbara goes into labor and goes to Lee's hospital. The merger of Gotham with the mainland is planned for the same day. However, this is hindered by Bane, who kidnaps Jim and Bruce and brings them to Walker. There Walker reveals that she is in fact the daughter of Ra's al Ghul and is called Nyssa al Ghul. For the joint murder of her father, Nyssa wants to kill Bruce and Barbara, which is why Bane is hospitalized. There Barbara manages to give birth to her child, but is kidnapped by Bane along with her newborn daughter. Bruce and Jim manage to escape in the meantime. Meanwhile, Jim is able to free Barbara and her daughter from Nyssa's captivity and severely wounded Nyssa. While Nyssa is fleeing, she gives the order that Gotham be destroyed by bombing. After Oswald and Ed have decided not to leave Gotham but to defend it, Nyssa escapes with their submarine. Bane and his officers are about to take the GCPD and shoot the refugees there. Bruce and Selina manage to take down a large part of the army by blowing up the Wayne Tower, but they still face a bitter battle. While defending the GCPD, Oswald loses his right eye when Bane detonates a hand grenade. Ultimately, it looks like Jim and the others are facing a firing squad. However, when the refugees gather in front of the GCPD, the soldiers, reluctant to obey Bane's terrifying orders, lay down their weapons. Bane and his officers are defeated and taken into custody.

Some time later Gotham is again part of the mainland and Jim is solemnly appointed commissioner. Bruce has made the decision to leave Gotham indefinitely. Selina only finds out about this when he has already left.

The final takes place ten years later; it turns out that six months after the Battle of Gotham, Jim arranged for Ed to be brought to Arkham and Oswald to Blackgate. Today, after a decade, Oswald is to be released again. In addition, the solemn return of Bruce Wayne is to take place on the same day. Jim is now married to Lee and shares custody with Barbara of their daughter Barbara Lee Gordon, who was named by her mother after the three people she trusts. After Oswald's release, Jim takes Jim to the pier at gunpoint to shoot him there for his treacherous betrayal, the refusal of a general amnesty as Barbara learned. However, Jim escapes by jumping into the river.

Ed is freed by a stranger from Arkham and he thinks it's Oswald. Thereupon he wants to blow up the Wayne Tower when it reopens, but is stopped by Barbara and the now grown-up Selina, a jewel thief. When Ed is taken away, Oswald is able to free him. In Wayne Tower, Jim and the others discover that it was not Ed or Oswald who planned the bombing, but Jeremiah Valeska, who only faked his brain death and pretended to be comatose for ten years. Together with Ecco, he wants to kidnap Jim and Barbara's daughter. However, Barbara manages to stab Ecco in the stomach. To redeem her, Jeremiah shoots his beloved. Jim finds Jeremiah at the Ace Chemicals factory. There, Jeremiah is killed by a masked stranger and Jim is able to save his daughter. This stranger arrests Ed and Oswald shortly afterwards. While the police are taking them away, Alfred and Lucius are present and discuss the fact that they are the only ones who have privy to a certain secret about Bruce.

Ed and Oswald managed to escape while the prisoners were being transported, but for fear of a certain man disguised as a bat, they let it be good for today. Selina, who is still very upset because Bruce left her behind for ten years without saying goodbye, chats with him on the roof. He apologizes to her, but at the same time asks her to bring back the diamond she stole. Finally, you see Jim and Harvey turning on the floodlights on the roof of the GCPD again. Alfred joins them and apologizes for Bruce's absence, as this was prevented. Harvey notices a figure on one of the rooftops wearing a mask and cloak. He wonders who it could be, while Jim says it is a friend.
