Benedict Samuel (born April 15, 1988 in Sydney ) is an Australian actor , screenwriter and director .

life and career

Samuel was born and raised in Australia to Maree and Clifford Samuel. He is the younger brother of the actor Xavier Samuel and his older sister Bridget, who works as a stage manager . He received his acting training at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), from which he graduated in 2009.

Then he worked in Melbourne at the theater. He also made a guest appearance on the Australian television series Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo and played a role in the short film Kiss . He was also briefly seen in the Australian soap opera Home and Away . In 2012 he made his directorial and screenwriting debut in the short film Sanctuary , in which his brother starred. He then worked in other short films. In 2014, Samuel stood alongside Krysten Ritter in the film Asthma . In 2015 he played a minor supporting role in the film The Stanford Prison Experiment and was part of the main cast on the television series The Beautiful Lie . In 2015, he starred in the supporting role of David in the film The Walk , directed by Oscar- winning director Robert Zemeckis , with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Charlotte Le Bon in the lead roles. Furthermore, Samuel was seen in the supporting role of Alpha Wolf in the television series The Walking Dead . In 2016 he starred alongside Woody Harrelson and Liam Hemsworth in the western The Duel and was also seen in a supporting role in the Australian miniseries Secret City . It was also announced in 2016 that Samuel had taken on the role of Mad Hatters in the third season of the Gotham television series .
