Benjamin McKenzie
Benjamin "Ben" McKenzie (born September 12, 1978 in Austin , Texas ; actually Benjamin McKenzie Schenkkan ) is an American actor . He became known to a wide audience through his leading roles in the television series OC, California (2003-2007), Southland (2009-2013) and Gotham (2014-2019).
life and career
McKenzie is the son of lawyer Pieter Meade Schenkkan. His mother, Mary Frances, is a writer, journalist, and professor at a university in Texas. He was born in Austin, Texas, where he grew up with his two younger brothers, Zack and Nate. His uncle is the actor and Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan ; his great cousin Sarah Drew is also an actress.
After graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Economics and International Relations , he moved to New York to devote his attention to acting. There he initially received various roles in off-Broadway productions before he went to Los Angeles and was hired there for one of the leading roles in the television series OC, California , which ended on February 22, 2007 with the fourth season. After his engagement in Southland between 2009 and 2013, he portrayed the character of Detective James Gordon in the TV series Gotham from 2014 to 2019 . For Gotham he also worked as a director and screenwriter, he directed three episodes and also wrote the film scripts for two more episodes.
McKenzie is interested in politics and also active. He was a speaker at the Democratic Assembly in the summer of 2004.
He lives in Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles County . Since the summer of 2015 he has been in a relationship with his colleague Morena Baccarin , who at times also played his girlfriend in the Gotham television series . At the beginning of March 2016, the two parents had a daughter. The marriage of the two took place on June 2, 2017 in Brooklyn .
