Professor Love (Original title: Some Kind of Beautiful ) is an American comedy film from 2014 . Directed by Tom Vaughan , it stars Pierce Brosnan , Jessica Alba and Salma Hayek .

Literature professor Richard Haig enjoys his life as a single and womanizer. After his current flirtation Kate gets pregnant and wants to move back to California, Richard decides to go with her and be there for his child. After a while, Kate falls in love with a new man and gets divorced. To make matters worse, Richard is threatened with expulsion from the United States. At that moment, Kate's sister Olivia appears and turns Richard's world upside down.

The shooting took place from October to November 2013 mainly in Los Angeles .

Originally, Kristin Scott Thomas was supposed to play the female lead. She was replaced by Salma Hayek before shooting began.

The film premiered in the United States on November 6, 2014 under the title Some Kind of Beautiful , and was released there on August 21, 2015. It was published in Canada under the title How to Make Love Like an Englishman and in the UK as Lessons in Love. In large parts of Europe, the film was released directly on DVD and Blu-ray , while in Germany it was released on June 9, 2016.

Reviews

The film received mostly negative reviews. At Metacritic , the film received a Metascore of 11/100 based on 9 reviews, and at Rotten Tomatoes , 4 percent of the 27 reviews were positive.

The film service believes that the “half-baked romantic comedy with a culture-clash touch” looks wooden and is “staged without a sense of timing”. It goes on to say that “amusing dialogues and critical swipes at American neuroses” alternated with “exaggerated comedy and inappropriate slapstick ”. On the occasion of the theatrical release in Germany, the TV Spielfilm judged that the "romantic comedy enriched with Chauvi clichés [...] was babbling tiredly to itself".
