Dame Kristin Ann Scott Thomas , DBE (born May 24, 1960 in Redruth , Cornwall ) is a British - French actress .

Life

Kristin Scott Thomas grew up in Dorset , England with her younger sister Serena Scott Thomas . Her family is traditionally associated with the Royal Navy . Her father and stepfather served as pilots with the Fleet Air Arm . Her uncle, Sir Richard Thomas, was an admiral and gentleman usher of the Black Rod in the House of Lords . Her great-great-uncle was the polar explorer and naval officer Robert Falcon Scott .

At the age of 19, she went to Paris as an au pair , where she trained as an actor at the École Nationale des Arts et Technique de Théâtre and became an American pop star immediately after graduating from the film project Under the Cherry Moon (1986) Prince committed. In the following years she was seen mostly in French productions. She had her breakthrough in 1992 with Roman Polański's film Bitter Moon . With this production she went on a tour to New York in September 2008 .

In 2003 Kristin Scott Thomas was awarded the Order of the British Empire and in 2005 the Legion d'honneur . In 2015 she received the rank of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, which raised her to the personal nobility. From 1987 to 2005 she was married to the French doctor François Olivennes. The marriage resulted in a daughter (* 1988) and two sons (* 1991 and 2000). In addition to being a British citizen, Thomas is also a French citizen.

Since her success in The English Patient in 1996 Kristin Scott Thomas has been dubbed primarily by Traudel Haas .
