Nowhere Boy is a biography produced in 2009 that tells of the early years of the later Beatles musician John Lennon . At the same time, the film also addresses the genesis of one of the most successful music groups. The script is based on the autobiography Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon by Julia Baird , a half-sister of John Lennon.
Short story
The film shows John Lennon, who grows up with his aunt Mimi in a suburb of Liverpool . It is she and his mother Julia who influence him and promote his career as a musician. Lennon and school friends found the skiffle band The Quarrymen , which Paul McCartney and George Harrison eventually joined . The film ends with Lennon saying goodbye to his aunt Mimi, as he is going to Hamburg to perform with his new band.
Reviews
“After a somewhat arbitrary beginning, 'Nowhere Boy' finds its trail and moves towards a tragic finale to the family revelations, in which the three main actors play to their full potential. Sam Taylor-Woods debut film is a nice, accurately presented musical biography about the teenage days and artistic beginnings of John Lennon. "
“After a somewhat lame beginning, in which a lot of things seem too flatly told, Nowhere Boy manages to pull in clearly from the middle and tell his story with humor, a little pathos and a lot of rock 'n' roll - Beatles songs, however, are in vain look, because they didn't exist back then. "
