Alison Elizabeth Margaret Goldfrapp (born May 13, 1966 in London ) is a British singer, songwriter, producer and namesake of the duo Goldfrapp , which produces electronic music .

Life

Alison Goldfrapp was born in Enfield , London , the youngest of six children. Her father, Nick, was a British Army officer and her mother, Isabella, was a nurse. The family moved many times during their childhood before finally settling in Alton , Hampshire .

At the age of 19 she moved to Belgium to work as a singer. After her return to England she studied fine arts at the Middlesex University School Of Art. After successfully completing her studies, she went on tour with the British musician Tricky and worked on his debut album Maxinquaye .

Career

In 1999 she founded the band Goldfrapp named after her with the composer Will Gregory , with which she had her greatest success to date. Goldfrapp are u. a. known for titles like Ooh La La , Ride A White Horse and Strict Machine .

In addition to Goldfrapp, she contributed the vocal part for the theme song composed by Paul Castle for the children's series Old Bear Stories .

In 2007 she made a guest appearance in the series The L Word .

Alison Goldfrapp was co-responsible for the soundtrack of Nowhere Boy , a biopic about John Lennon's teenage years.

Private life

In 2010, Alison Goldfrapp came out as bisexual in an interview and named film editor Lisa Gunning as her partner.

“I think of everything as being about a person and a relationship, and I am in a wonderful relationship with a wonderful person. It just happens to be with a lady ... It's something I've thought about for a long time and it concurs with my philosophy on life and sexuality. I don't think it can or should be pigeonholed. I've thought about this since I was a teenager. I've always found it claustrophobic to think about having to put things into categories like that. My sexuality is the same as my music and my life. Why does it need a label? "
