Felt Mountain is the debut album by British synthpop duo Goldfrapp . It was released on September 11, 2000 in Great Britain on the independent label Mute Records as a compact disc with the catalog number CDMUTE 264. It was not until almost a year later, on August 25, 2001, that it entered the British album charts , where it was on during its five-week period Chart history reached number 57. Utopia was previously released as a single and reached number 62 in the single charts in June 2001. In November 2001 the single Pilots was also able to place in the top 75.

The album is assigned to the genre trip-hop , but also has influences from pop of the 1960s , cabaret , folk and electronica . The song Human reminded by the string arrangements of Shirley Bassey's James Bond theme song Goldfinger . The album is also reminiscent of other works by the composer John Barry , who is best known for his film scores . Otherwise comparisons are made to the music of Björk and Portishead .

Felt Mountain received rave reviews from critics. Allmusic rated the album as one of the most impressive debut albums of 2000. Laut.de described the album as a "giant throw". The reviewer wrote that seldom has a record impressed him so much when he first listened to it. He particularly praised the “almost brilliant” arrangements.

The e-zine Slant Magazine took Felt Mountain 2010 in the list of 100 best albums of the decade, in the opinion of the editorial team. The British music magazine Q named the album in its editorial best list for 2000. It is also recommended in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die .
