action

Theater director Iva Delusi asks her long-term partner, the professor of Asian culture Damien Hauer, for a favor: He should stand up for the young Zorica with his father. Zorica comes from the Balkans and is a friend of Iva's sister-in-law Véra. She has been staying illegally in France for some time and is now afraid of deportation. Damien's father, the influential judge and president of the Conseil d'État Sébastien Hauer, is supposed to speak to his contact Henri Hortense, who has been able to solve such cases safely in favor of the refugees. Damien has a strained relationship with his father and is reluctant to ask for help. At Iva’s insistence, he arranges to meet Sébastien for dinner, which is canceled due to overwork. During the short meeting, Damien does not get the chance to tell his father about the case. In front of Iva and especially in front of Véra and Iva's brother Marco, Damien does not manage to tell how the conversation really went. Everyone thinks the case will be followed up by Sébastien. A later dinner with his father is interrupted by Sébastien's admission that he has slept with men and that his sexuality is not dictated by society's pigeonhole thinking. Damien can touch on the Zorica case briefly, but not get to his real concern.

Damien's personal life begins to fall apart. He realizes that Iva is having an affair with an actor and throws her out of their apartment. As a result, he now has to look after his early adolescent son Noé, who suffers from the poor relationship between his parents and becomes rebellious. Damien meanwhile meets the young waitress and bookseller Aurore, for whom he soon feels more. In conversation with her, he realizes that she is really Zorica. He confesses to her that he failed to contact his father. She goes disappointed and goes into hiding; Iva and Marco turn away from him. Only now does Damien devote himself emphatically to the case. He asks his father for help, but he makes it clear to him that he will not pass the case on to Henri Hortense because of the hopelessness. Hortense has handled too many such cases in the past and after a while refused to accept all new cases. Damien organizes an interview with Hortense on his own, but Hortense throws him out of the apartment when he learns the real purpose of the visit. Aurore is waiting for Damien. She admits that she has made a decision: She wants to go to India with Damien's boyfriend Lobatch and become pregnant. Damien knows that Lobatch is emotionally unstable and has only recently attempted suicide. Damien tries in vain to warn Aurore. He confesses to her that he would have made her pregnant if she had wanted to.

A month later, Iva broke up with her lover and started a new affair. Damien takes courage and shows his father how much he despises him. Shortly afterwards he sees Aurore, who has not gone to India. He follows her to her beloved foster grandmother. They both start a conversation and he indicates that there is a solution to their residence problem.
