Claude Rich (born February 8, 1929 in Strasbourg , † July 20, 2017 in Orgeval ) was a French actor .

Life

Rich initially worked as a bank clerk. From 1949 to 1953 he completed an acting training with Charles Dullin at the Paris Conservatory. He was a member of the Ensemble des Théâtre National Populaire and wrote pieces himself. His film debut in René Clair's The Great Maneuver (1955) was followed by numerous roles as a lover in entertainment films (including in the hunt for men ). François Truffaut cast it in 1967 for one of the murder victims Jeanne Moreau in The Bride Wore Black .
