Édouard Molinaro (born May 13, 1928 in Bordeaux , † December 7, 2013 in Paris ) was a French director and screenwriter .

Life

Molinaro made his first film Les Alchimistes in 1957. He was best known for his comedies with Louis de Funès ( Oscar , Uncle Paul, the great plum ) and the historical comedy The Man in the Red Skirt (1969, with Jacques Brel and Claude Jade ). He dedicated the film to his wife Pierrette, a pilot, who was killed in a plane crash while filming. In the 1970s the men Dracula (1976, with Christopher Lee ) and the farce Die Filzlaus (1973, with Jacques Brel and Lino Ventura ) followed. The comedy specialist's best-known film is the travesty and gay comedy A Cage Full of Fools (1978, with Michel Serrault and Ugo Tognazzi ).

Molinaro was active as a director until the end, but shot almost exclusively for television .
