The Tall Blonde on Free Feet is a French comedy comedy directed by Édouard Molinaro from 1988.

action

Yann Ducoudray is a successful painter with a studio apartment in Paris. He has been in love with Florence for a long time, but she is married. At his vernissage he can finally talk to Florence through the mediation of his friend Jean-Yves. She knows that Yann is in love with her and makes an appointment with him for the next day in his studio. Yann's neighbor Boris already attracts negative attention at the vernissage, as he starts a tangible argument with his girlfriend Éva out of jealousy. Although Éva announces that he is leaving, the two reconcile, even if Boris again reacts jealously at home when Éva lets Yann light her over the balcony. Boris goes to work the next day, but forgets his briefcase in the apartment. Éva wants to bring her after him, dressed only in underwear. The apartment door slams and Éva rings Yann's doorbell to get into her apartment via his balcony. He undertakes the daring climbing action himself and things get tangled: While Yann climbs over the balconies, Florence calls him and Éva answers the phone. Yann, in turn, falls into Éva and Boris' marriage bed with a cramp when Boris comes back to the apartment to get his briefcase. He now believes that Éva and Yann are having an affair, so he packs Éva's things and throws them out of the apartment.

Éva goes to Yann's apartment because in the end he was to blame for everything. Florence, who was convinced of a misunderstanding by Yann, misinterprets the scene again. She leaves, but sees her husband on the stairs and again takes refuge in Yann's apartment. Here she presents Yann and Éva as a couple, even if Éva and Boris reconcile shortly afterwards. Yann thinks he has overcome the chaos. As he is about to light a cigarette with a lighter pistol, Éva rings his doorbell again to get her suitcases from his bedroom. He takes a joke with her and asks her to shoot him. After some back and forth, the alleged lighter turns out to be a real pistol that Yann fires. Boris is shot and Florence, who has returned to Yann, calls the police. Eventually Jean-Yves also shows up and it turns out that he accidentally swapped his real pistol for the lighter.

Boris has shown his jealousy over and over again during all the events and Éva has had enough. She wants to leave him for good, but Boris locks her and Yann in Yann's apartment. He threatens disaster if he does not learn the truth about the two of them. Because Boris does not accept the truth - nothing happened between the two of them - Yann invents a long-term relationship between him and Éva. A wild chase ensues, after which Éva also claims out of anger that she has a relationship with Yann. Boris finally collapses and threatens suicide if Éva leaves him. This in turn alarms Florence and Jean-Yves, who had a drink in the café in front of Yann's house, and also Marilda, Yann's cleaning lady. She turns out to be Boris' lover and Éva is horrified. Boris believes that men are allowed to have affairs. He claims to love Éva, but she desperately reaches for Yann's pistol. She shoots Boris, but the pistol turns out to be the lighter. Éva passes out and Boris carries her into her apartment. Both make up. Florence, in turn, separates from her husband and returns to Yann. They both kiss in the hallway until Yann's door slams and they both start to laugh.

production

The tall blonde on free feet is based on the play L'amuse-gueule by Gérard Lauzier , who also wrote the screenplay for the film. Catherine Gorne-Achdjian created the costumes, Jacques Bufnoir designed the film . Director Édouard Molinaro has a cameo as an elevator driver.

The film opened in French cinemas on August 31, 1988 and was also shown in German cinemas from May 25, 1989. On July 13, 1990, it was shown in GDR cinemas. The film had already appeared on video in August 1989 and was released on DVD in September 2004.

The title alludes to the successful films The Big Blonde Returns and The Big Blonde with the Black Shoe with Pierre Richard. There is no contextual connection, so this German title was probably chosen for marketing reasons.
