Pierre Richard
Pierre Richard , actually Pierre Richard Maurice Charles Léopold Defays (born August 16, 1934 in Valenciennes ) is a French actor and comedian . After his international breakthrough in 1972 as the “ tall blond man with the black shoe ”, he played the role of the sympathetic, absent- minded clumsy in many comedies . Until the late 1980s he was one of the most successful European film comedians.
Career
After graduating from drama school, Pierre Richard initially had small appearances in various cabarets and at the Paris Opera and played supporting roles in several TV and cinema films. In 1967 he drew attention to himself for the first time as a film actor and comedian in Yves Roberts Alexander, the life artist alongside leading actor Philippe Noiret . The role of the harmless, absent-minded and always pathetic ordinary citizen seemed made for him. He celebrated his breakthrough in 1970 with his directorial debut The Scattered , in which he also played the leading role.
Richard finally achieved international fame in 1972 as The Big Blonde with the Black Shoe . The film, which initially received little attention in France, was slightly re-cut by Rainer Brandt and dubbed very freely. The great success of the film in Germany made Pierre Richard popular in his home country France and made his international career possible. In this mistaken comedy by Yves Robert , in which the clichés of spy thrillers were satirized, he played an absent-minded violinist who is mistaken for a secret agent and unknowingly his life is in danger. Since then, clumsiness has become his trademark. Later comedies alluded to Robert’s successful film in the German distribution title ( The Long Blonde with Red Hair , 1974, The Gentle with Fast Legs , 1978, The Big Blonde on Free Feet , 1988), although their content had no relation to him.
Between 1981 and 1986 Richard directed Francis Veber on the side of Gérard Depardieu, the three hit comedies The Horny Ox and His Draft Horse , Two Crazy Jokers and The Fugitives , in which Richard was seen as a clumsy and Depardieu the role of his hard-nosed (and reluctant) partner took over. These films anticipated the recipe for success of the buddy movies , which were very successful in the United States in the 1980s. Remakes of all three films were produced in Hollywood with American actors .
In later years Richard tried increasingly to shed the clumsy image and take on serious roles. He showed this in Nana Djordjadze's tragic comedy The Recipes of a Chef in Love from 1996, in which he played a quiet restaurant owner whose love for a Georgian princess remained unfulfilled during the turmoil of the October Revolution . Also in 2000 in Djordjadze's 27 Missing Kisses and as a tragic traveling musician in Das Foundelkind . These films received less audience response than his comedies.
Pierre Richard was dubbed mainly by Harry Wüstenhagen between 1972 and 1990 . Since Wüstenhagen retired in 1993 and died in 1999, speakers such as Peer Augustinski or Peter Fricke were used from the 1990s . Most recently in German cinemas And if we all move in together? (2011) and Monsieur Pierre goes online (2017) with Pierre Richard.
There is an actor of the same name who was active between 1958 and 1971 and should not be confused with him.
Private
Richard runs the Château Bel Évêque winery in the southern French town of Gruissan .
His two sons are musicians: Olivier is the saxophonist in the Blues trottoir duo and Christophe is a double bass player . The brothers composed the soundtrack for their father's film Droit dans le mur , in which Richard, in addition to the lead role, also directed and wrote the screenplay. His grandson Arthur Defays is a model.
