occupation

Alexander, der Lebenskünstler (original title: Alexandre le bienheureux ; GDR title: Alexander, the blissful dreamer ) is a comedy by Yves Robert , which was premiered in France on February 9, 1968. The film was shown in GDR cinemas from August 1969 and was shown on ARD television in 1971, two years before it was shown in West German cinemas in 1973. Philippe Noiret can be seen in one of his star roles as a jovial artist of life, and the transformation from a staid farmer to a “ hippie ” also fits in with the 1968 zeitgeist. The film made Noiret a star in France.

action

The rich farmer Alexander is ruled by his wife, who drives him constantly. When she dies in a car accident, he decides to stop working and spend the day in bed. His dog is sent to the village with a basket to look after him. His inaction is offensive to the villagers, especially when some of them become infected. Finally Agathe succeeds in getting to him and almost "converting" him again. But when it dawns on him on the day of the wedding that he is getting back into his old situation, he lets the wedding break.

Reviews

“An original, freshly staged praise of laziness and the little joys of existence; sympathetic conversation with approaches worth considering. "
