Marlène Jobert (born November 4, 1940 in Algiers ) is a French actress and writer .

biography

Jobert studied at the art schools of Dijon (Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Dijon) and Paris ( Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique ) and earned her living as a photo model and as an extra in film productions. After engagements on the theater stage and television , she was discovered for the cinema in the 1960s. She made her debut in Jean-Luc Godard's Masculin - Feminin or: The Children of Marx and Coca-Cola (1966) in a leading role. In 1967 she played alongside Jean-Paul Belmondo and Geneviève Bujold in Louis Malles The Thief of Paris . She had two of her best-known box office successes in 1970, as a policewoman in Der Kommissar und seine Decoy (with Lino Ventura ; director: José Giovanni ) and as a frightened murderer in René Clément's psychological thriller The Coming Out of the Rain (with Charles Bronson ).

Jobert worked with the film directors Philippe de Broca , Claude Chabrol , Robert Enrico and Claude Lelouch , among others . In the 1970s she also took part in the production of some films with her own company MJ , such as the 1974 comedies Juliette and Juliette (with Annie Girardot ) and He's Not That Bad (with Gérard Depardieu ). The red-haired actress predominantly played roles in which her courageous actions, her naive-seeming desires and the virility of her male partners contrasted with her fragile appearance and her fears.

Parallel to her cinema career, she also celebrated successes on television again and again. This is how she became one of the most popular French actresses, although she only appeared sporadically in front of the camera from the 1980s. She had her last major role in the mid-1990s in the television series Avocat d'office . In 2002 she declined to participate in the film 8 women ; the role was then played by Isabelle Huppert . In 2007 Jobert was honored with the honorary award at the French César film award .

She has retired from acting to focus entirely on writing children's books. In recent years she has also appeared as a speaker of audio books for children and as an author of books about music.

Marlène Jobert is the mother of actress Eva Green (* 1980) and her twin sister Johanne.
