criticism

  • The lexicon of international film judges: "Humanly gripping and dramatically excellent crime film, which despite formal irregularities draws a psychologically coherent character and milieu study"
  • Prisma praises: “Even if Lino Ventura as a lonely hardliner delivers one of his typical roles here, it is an above-average crime thriller. Because the work of José Giovanni, who also realized the thriller 'In the dirt' with Ventura the year before, is not only exciting, but also extremely socially critical. Giovanni and Ventura worked together for the third and last time 13 years later when they werefilmingthe adventure comedy The Battering Ram. "
  • The ARD writes: "José Giovanni wrote here for Lino Ventura, a role in which he could be seen at its best. Leonetti is a man without illusions, with a good dose of cynicism to be able to assert himself against the adversities of work and life, but not without cautious sympathy for the young beginner who still has ideals. The Corsican-born Giovanni, who himself came into conflict with the law before his career as a screenwriter and director, demonstrates less idealistically right at the beginning of the film how the law can be turned, turned and abused.
