action

Former racing driver Aldo carries a lot of guilt: years ago he caused an accident in which his best friend Gérard was seriously injured. Since then he has had a stiff leg and is dependent on a wheelchair. Therefore, Aldo has withdrawn to the lonely north of Canada and toiled in a gold mine . In this way he hopes to generate enough money to finance Gérard's necessary operation.

While the wages are being paid, the mine is attacked by gangsters who kill almost the entire workforce. Only Aldo and two Indians are spared. The trio succeeds in shooting all crooks and thereby comes into possession of the loot. But shortly afterwards there was a dispute between Aldo and the Indians over the gold. Without further ado, he outwits his partner and takes the prey in a canoe. But during the escape, his boat capsizes in the rapids of a mountain river, and the box with the gold goes down.

Since he believes the gold is safe from the others, he goes to Montreal to tell Gérard about the treasure. But neither this nor his wife Éléonore believe him, but after good persuasion they accompany him in the end. With the help of Aldo's ex-girlfriend, the " Baroness " and old John , the five of them set off into the rough Canadian wilderness to retrieve the gold, with a mobile home and a special boat that is transported with a flatbed truck. With the help of the boat, Aldo succeeds in diving for the gold and retrieving it.

criticism

"An adventure film with the usual sequence of genre set pieces in an average staging - but at least with the sovereign Lino Ventura in the lead role."
