Christian Fechner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christian Lucien Max Alfred Fechner (born July 26, 1944 in Agen , France , † November 25, 2008 in Paris ) was a French film producer who made great box-office hits and magician , especially in the 1970s and 1980s .

Live and act

Fechner was the son of an Austrian baron who fled to France as a result of the annexation of Austria in 1938. Christian Fechner, who tried his hand at ventriloquism at a young age , was already very interested in contemporary Anglo-American pop music ( Sonny and Cher , Donovan, etc.) in the mid-1960s and then began making records by local artists. Christian Fechner produced records for the band Les Charlots as early as 1965 , a French reaction to the successful British formations The Beatles and The Monkees , but also by the singer Antoine .

In 1972 Fechner founded his own film production company with Les Films Christian Fechner. His early works are turbulent comedies with the Charlots ( Charlot is Charlie Chaplin's common name in France ), which also included Fechner's younger brother Jean-Guy (* 1947). After the Charlot films (1972/73), Fechner produced several successful comedies with the French star comedians Pierre Richard and above all Louis de Funès , whom he suffered after two heart attacks in 1975 at largely his own risk for the turbulent comedy Breast or Club in front of the camera retrieved. The film proved to be a huge box office hit.

In the course of the 1980s, Fechner also made productions of other genres, including action and crime films such as Die Spezialen . Among the artistically most ambitious Fechner productions are Bruno Nuytten's artist biography Camille Claudel and Leos Carax 's critically acclaimed Paris drama The Lovers of Pont-Neuf . In the late 1980s when he did not have a feature film, Christian Fechner produced four television series. In 1992 Fechner directed the only time and also participated in the script for this film. In 1997 he succeeded in reuniting the two former superstars of French action cinema of the 60s and 70s, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon , after a long time in front of the camera. The result, All my fathers , was disappointing and, moreover, flopped at the box office. With the third part of the film trilogy Les Bronzés , Les Bronzés 3: Amis pour la vie , Fechner achieved another big box-office success in early 2006.

He died of cancer at the age of 64.

Fechner and the art of magic

Christian Fechner was an enthusiastic magician from a young age and later also buyer and supervisor of Adolphe Blind's estate . After Fechner's death, a large part of the collection became the property of the magician David Copperfield .

Another part of Christian Fechner's collection was put up for auction on October 4, 2009 at the auction house Hauff & Auvermann in Berlin. The sale reached a total of 103,735.00 euros.

At the 15th World Congress of Magic in Lausanne, FISM 1982, he presented a series of his own creations in a stage performance.

Fechner wrote fundamental publications on the history of magic about his compatriot Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin , which were published in French and English.
