action

The two experienced stunt people Mike Gaucher and Jane Gardner are a couple both professionally and personally. Only because of Mike's bravado, his own clumsiness and his annoying agents, the two have never made it into the port of marriage. On the day of the planned wedding, Mike can be persuaded to do a stunt together in a gangster film, which of course annoys Jane. The actually simple shoot ends in fiasco: The stunt car crashes due to the dispute among each other and a technical defect, so that Mike and Jane end up wrapped in bandages in the hospital instead of in front of the altar. Jane has had enough of her unreliable partner and breaks up.

After being released from the hospital, Mike believes that he is unlucky: first he messes up the promotion date for a noodle manufacturer and is fired and then loses a lucrative, albeit illegal, source of income from the social welfare office, to whom he plays a disabled father with many children. After all, Mike has a new job. The film producer Fechner and the stuttering director Campanese hire him for a spy film spectacle by the movie hero Bruno Ferrari , whom Mike looks very similar. Mike is supposed to double Ferrari so that the producer can boast that Ferrari does all of its stunts on its own. Mike agrees - with the condition that Jane should also participate. Campanese hesitates at first, but when Mike (on purpose) messes up a stunt, the team brings Jane on board.

Mike hopes to win Jane back over by being close to Jane. However, his former partner has meanwhile dealt with a count and intends to marry him soon. In addition, Bruno bothers them in the most impossible situations. Because, unlike his image, he is playful, fearful and above all gay, which is why he approaches Mike.

When Mike sees no other chance to prevent Jane's wedding and she also finds out that she was only hired because of Mike, Jane leaves the set while Mike exposes Bruno at a press conference as the rabbit-footed wimp he actually is.

On the day of the wedding, Mike storms in a gorilla costume and supports the count's castle with a number of zoo animals and prevents the marriage. At the end he swings himself down on a rope to Jane, who still loves him, after which both fly towards a common future.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film saw a "[z] between slapstick and amusing situation comedy fluctuating, tasteless comedy", with Belmondo being praised in the double role.

The conclusion of Cinema is: "A crazy slapstick slapstick slapstick."

Awards

The film won the Golden Screen in 1978 .

Trivia

  • As in most of his films, Belmondo did all of his stunts himself. A small bow to it can be seen in the film, when Bruno Ferrari tried to portray it that way.
  • French music and film stars Jane Birkin and Johnny Hallyday have guest appearances in the film.
  • The main producer of An insane guy is Christian Fechner . As an insider gag, the producer of the film played by Julien Guiomar was also given the name Fechner in the film . The famous French director Claude Chabrol plays himself: using his name and as one of the directors of the film in the film.
  • The Château de Vigny in Vigny , around 40 kilometers northwest of Paris, served as the filming location for the castle of Count de Saint-Prix .
