Who came out of the rain (original title: Le Passager de la pluie) is a thriller filmed by René Clément as an Italian-French co-production . The film opened on January 21, 1970 in French cinemas; in Germany it was published on October 29, 1970.

action

The film begins with a quote from Lewis Carroll's classic Alice in Wonderland : “Either the well had to be very deep or it fell very slowly; because she had enough time to look around as she fell and wonder what would happen next. ”This is what happens to Mélancolie Mau, known as Mellie, in her wonderland: She is attacked, raped and tied up in her house by a strange man at night . He had already shadowed her the day before, and she had even noticed him once. Finally she frees herself from her bonds and notices that the intruder is still in the house; she succeeds in killing him. She makes the man's body disappear and hides the incident from her husband Tony when he comes home.

The next day, the mysterious American Harry Dobbs appears, who seems to know everything about the killed stranger, but also about Mellie. He puts Mellie under massive pressure, stays with her, makes her drunk and gives her psychological problems to find out what happened between her and the stranger.

However, Mellie is stronger than she appears at the beginning of the film. She does her own research. She finds out that Dobbs is an American Colonel who was looking for the strange man and $ 60,000. However, it later emerges that the man Mellie believes she killed had been killed a year earlier. Dobbs deliberately set a trap for Mellie with a newspaper article at the beginning of the film. So in the end Dobbs finds the burglar's corpse with Mellie's unintentional help. In the end, Dobbs has proof that Mellie murdered this, but lets them go.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films praised: “Cleverly devised psychological thriller; Feelings, attitudes and processes are cool and sparingly motivated and intensely staged. "

prisma writes: “The crime film specialist René Clément (“ Only the sun was a witness ”) shot an elaborate psychological thriller with technical and acting finesse. The unequal couple Charles Bronson and Marlène Jobert engages in an exciting psychological duel, whereby Bronson ostensibly has the upper hand, but in the end fell in love with his - for him unreachable - opponent. "

Der Spiegel judged: "What is happening there is a suspense drama in which, step by step, a tricky, seemingly inscrutable labyrinth is unraveled and which almost leads to a romance between the hunter and the victim."
