The horny ox and his draft horse (also: A clumsy seldom comes alone and The unlucky bird ) is a French comedy film from 1981 by Francis Veber , who also wrote the screenplay.
action
During a vacation in Mexico , the clumsy daughter of the French CEO Bens disappears without a trace. First he sends the tough private detective Campana to Mexico, but his search fails. He suspects that gangsters may have kidnapped the daughter and sold it to a brothel. In his desperation, on the advice of his colleague Meyer, the girl's father decides to send his subordinate François Perrin, who is just as unlucky as his daughter, on a search with Campana. Campana considers the idea that Perrin could slip on "the same banana peels" as the daughter and thus find her trail, nonsense, but out of pity for the desperate father decides to start the trip.
Thanks to Perrin's “help”, the girl is found after a number of coincidences, accidents and disasters because she is lying in a jungle hospital in Perrin's bed next door.
background
The film was released in French cinemas on December 9, 1981 and in German cinemas on March 19, 1982. The newly dubbed version ran for the first time on January 12, 1985 on ARD and in the same year on DFF .
The film was shot in various locations in Mexico and Paris. A remake with Danny Glover and Martin Short in the leading roles was released in 1991 under the title Reine Glückssache .
Publications
The film was initially released in Germany on VHS under the title Der Unlucky by Atlas Video. A release on DVD under the title Der Hornochse und seine Zugpferd took place in August 2005 by Concorde Video. The DVD version contained both the cinema and TV dubbing. In March 2016, EuroVideo released the film again on DVD and as a high-resolution version on Blu-ray Disc . The Blu-ray version will be offered together with the films The Fugitives and Two Crazy Jokers on a Blu-ray under the name Pierre Richard & Gérard Depardieu Edition . In the Blu-ray version, the TV synchronization was dispensed with in favor of the cinema version.
criticism
For the lexicon of international films , Der Hornochse und seine Zugpferd was “a shallow comedy based on well-known patterns, which initially strives for a little depth, but increasingly loses speed and crazy logic”. The new dubbing of the film, A Clumsy Seldom Comes Alone, which was created for television, “relies less on pun and verbal claws, which makes the film more appealing and comic."
Award
The National Board of Review nominated the film in 1985 for "Top Foreign Films".
synchronization
The first German dubbed version was made by Deutsche Synchron , Berlin. Michael Richter was responsible for the script and direction. The film was later re-dubbed for television.
