Álex Phillips junior

Álex Phillips Bolaños (born January 11, 1935 in Mexico City , Mexico , † February 12, 2007 there ) was a Mexican cameraman .

Life

The son of Canadian-born cameraman Alex Phillips , probably the busiest representative of his profession in Mexican film, trained at the Montréal Institute for the Photographic Arts from 1955 to 1958 and subsequently worked his way up from camera assistant and simple cameraman to chief cameraman. During this time, from 1958 to 1964, through his father's mediation, he even became the house photographer of the then Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos . From 1964 onwards, Álex Phillips Jr. photographed a huge number of Mexican entertainment films, which, however, were almost never noticed outside of the Spanish-speaking world.

He photographed pussies and dramas, comedies and melodramas, historical epics and rough action material. Several times - especially since the early 1970s - Phillips junior has also been behind the camera in US productions when Mexico was the location. This brought him together with Hollywood stars as diverse as Anthony Perkins , Robert De Niro , Sidney Poitier , Robert Mitchum , Rita Hayworth , Charles Bronson , Peter O'Toole , Richard Chamberlain and Michael Douglas . Phillips is best for his camerawork on Sam Peckinpah's brutal 70s classic Bring Alfredo Garcia's head to mind. After more than 120 films in just four decades, Álex Phillips junior ended his active career at the turn of the millennium.

Phillips had three children with his wife Genoveva Desgagnes.
