action

Africa in the 1910s. Adventurer Allan Quatermain and archaeologist Jessie Huston became a couple after the events surrounding King Solomon's diamonds, now live in a mansion in the jungle and lead a peaceful life. The idyll is suddenly disturbed when Dumont, a friend of Quatermain's, visits him near death. This once belonged to the expedition of Allan's brother Robeson, who has been missing since then. Dumont also believes he is being followed. Quatermain confronts the masked hunters and snatches some gold jewelry that cannot be assigned to any particular culture. Shortly thereafter, Dumont is dead and Quatermain sets out to find his brother and track down the attackers, because the two seem to be connected in some way.

Quatermain seeks out Guru Swarma, who lives nearby, but who is actually a charlatan. Swarma explains the background to Allan: the gold jewelry comes from a hidden golden city in which a hitherto unknown white race is said to live. Robeson was looking for both when he disappeared. Quatermain then sets out with Jessie, Swarma and the warrior chief Umslopogas to find Robeson. After several threats such as armed tribes and a drive through of cascade Infused labyrinth of caves, the group reaches actually the lying at a waterfall golden city.

Here they actually find Robeson, who has found a new home in the midst of the alien race. But there is also new trouble: the city is under the thumb of the high priest Agon, who once came here as a slave trader and now runs a criminal gold trade in an underground mine. Quatermain and Co. are not executed only by encouraging the two sister queens Nylephta and Sorais. Quatermain manages to eradicate Agon's deadly rites once and for all. The high priest then tries to get Quatermain out of the way because he is standing in his way with his plan to take over the city. Through his greed for gold, Agon manages to get Swarma on his side. Together with Queen Sorais, who also belongs to him, and an army of warriors, he finally attacks the city. At the last moment Quatermain and his comrades manage to defeat the attackers. Agon dies on his own gold.

Reviews

  • Wolff Dobson wrote in the "Wolff Movie Index" that Sharon Stone was acting more than in the first film. The film is amusing.
  • “Quatermain has to ward off the usual boring staged dangers. Inexpensive sequel to Quatermain. Stiff, mindless, laughable special effects ”.
  • David Annandale wrote on upcomingdiscs.com that the film was a sequel to what was the worst of the film adaptations. It ties in with the successes of the films with Indiana Jones, and even the film music is reminiscent of these films. However, it is not as exciting and funny as Steven Spielberg's films. The special effects are bad, the gender-specific clichés are annoying, the plot is nonsense.
