Helmut Bein

Helmut "Bright" leg (* 5. May 1932 in Ludwigshafen on the Rhine , † 3. August 2006 ibid), a qualified tax advisor , was a renowned German rally driver , motorsport manager at BMW and Opel and Formula 3 - functionary .

Career

As a rally driver, Bein won a total of three German championship titles in the 1960s (on a DKW 1000 SP, BMW 1600 and BMW 2002 ). From 1969 to 1972 he was head of mass sports and rallying at BMW. He celebrated his greatest success in this position in 1971 when the Polish rally driver Sobiesław Zasada won the European Championship title in a BMW 2002ti . He then moved to Opel's rally department as head of sport . From 1973 he was responsible for founding the well-known Opel Euro dealer team and was successful with Walter Röhrl and the Opel Ascona A , among others . Under his direction, the Opel Kadett and the Opel Omega entered the German Touring Car Championship . In 1992 he retired and from then on devoted himself to the Formula 3 youngsters for another seven years. From 1995 to 2002 he was President of the Formula 3 Association and at the end of the 2002 season retired from the Board of Management at his own request for reasons of age. Since 2002 he has been Honorary Chairman of the Formula 3 Association.

On August 3, 2006, Helle Bein died of a heart attack .
