Robert Donner (born April 27, 1931 in New York City , † June 8, 2006 in Sherman Oaks , California ) was an American actor .

biography

After graduating from high school , Donner enlisted in the US Navy for four years . After the end of his service, Donner worked in various professions before he was discovered as a film actor by Clint Eastwood , his neighbor at the time.

In 1959 Donner made his feature film debut in Howard Hawks ' western Rio Bravo . At first he played minor roles, including a. in the westerns The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and El Dorado . Eventually the gaunt actor with the distinctive facial features developed into a sought-after character actor. Although almost exclusively for supporting roles, he has worked in over 120 film and television productions over the course of his almost 50-year career. Donner mostly played dodgy, devious, corrupt and unlucky characters like "Boss Shorty" in the prison drama The Unyielding with Paul Newman , the "Preacher" in the Eastwood western A Stranger Without a Name and the killer in the Chevy Chase comedy Secret mission Hollywood .

He has also appeared as a guest star on numerous television series such as Falcon Crest , MacGyver , 700 Miles West , A Colt Just For Any Occasion, and Dharma & Greg . Donner played "Exidor" in 22 episodes of the sitcom Mork vom Ork with Robin Williams in the title role and, between 1972 and 1979, "Yancy Tucker" in a total of 15 episodes in the family series The Waltons and a 1993 television special.

In addition to filming, Donner was an avid amateur golfer who took part in numerous charity tournaments in Hollywood.

Robert Donner died of a heart attack on June 8, 2006 in his adopted country of California at the age of 75 .
