Franz Xaver Frenzel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Xaver Frenzel (born October 8, 1945 in Mauterndorf ) is the artist name of the Austrian composer Friedemann Katt .

Life

Friedemann Katt was born in Mauterndorf (Austria) in 1945. He enjoyed early support from his father, the composer Leopold Katt . At the University of Music in Vienna he studied composition with Alfred Uhl.

Katt played as an organist in the Heiligenkreuz Abbey , was a music educator in Baden near Vienna from 1967 and since 1989 has devoted himself to composition mostly under the pseudonym "Franz Xaver Frenzel". Katt lives in Ried im Innkreis .

The artist name "Franz Xaver Frenzel" enables Katt to devote himself to baroque music as a postmodern composer without any constraints . The fictional character Frenzel is now viewed by him, sometimes in a self-deprecating way, like a second existence:

"Some of my compositions are ascribed to Frenzel, but all of the Frenzel compositions are mine."

Friedemann Katt has become known far beyond the country's borders as the “only living baroque composer in Austria”.
