history

From the former Linz theater orchestra, which was converted into a Reichsgau orchestra in 1938 , the Linz theater and symphony orchestra emerged after the Second World War. It was renamed Bruckner Orchester Linz (BOL) in 1967 under chief conductor Kurt Wöss and has since become one of the leading orchestras Austrian ensembles counts. The namesake Anton Bruckner was an Upper Austrian composer whose symphonies are one of the cornerstones of the repertoire . In 2011 the orchestra and its chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies (since 2002) presented a complete recording.

It is the symphonic orchestra of the state of Upper Austria and oversees the musical productions of the Linz State Theater . The orchestra's tasks include concerts at the International Bruckner Festival Linz, concert cycles in the Brucknerhaus , and the “Big Concert Night” of the Ars Electronica Festival. As the ambassador for Upper Austria and its namesake, the BOL is regularly on the move internationally. Markus Poschner has been the chief conductor since autumn 2017 . From 2020 the Bruckner Orchester Linz will have its own concert cycle in the Brucknerhaus in Linz for the first time, and one in the Vienna Musikverein since 2012 .
