Steven Sloane (* 1958 in Los Angeles , California ) is a German-American conductor .

Life

Sloane studied viola , musicology and conducting at the University of California , Los Angeles. Studied conducting with Eugene Ormandy , Franco Ferrara and Gary Bertini . After moving to Israel , Steven Sloane conducted the country's most important orchestras there , was choir and orchestra director of the Israel Conservatory of Music and the Tel Aviv Philharmonic Choir and was music director of the Tel Aviv Music Festival.

Sloane has been General Music Director of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra since 1994 . Orchestras led by Sloane have received multiple awards for their programming. At the beginning of 2008, Steven Sloane was appointed to the board of directors of RUHR.2010 - European Capital of Culture for the subject area “City of the Arts”.

In 2013, he succeeded Lutz Köhler as professor of conducting and director of the symphony orchestra at the Berlin University of the Arts .

Sloane campaigned intensively for the construction of the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr , which opened in 2016 and with which the Bochum Symphony Orchestra received its own venue for the first time. Steven Sloane will leave the Bochum Symphony Orchestra in 2021, but before that a successor is being sought for Sloane as General Music Director and as Artistic Director of the Anneliese Brost Music Forum.

From the 2020/21 season he will work as the new Music Director of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and from October 2019 as Music Director Designate and will be the successor to Frédéric Chaslin .
