Serge Baudo
Serge Baudo [ ˈsɛʀʒ baʊ̯ˈdo ] (born July 16, 1927 in Marseille ) is a French conductor .
Serge Baudo completed his training in composition and conducting in Paris . First he worked for French radio as a composer. He also composed the music for films by Louis Malle and Jacques-Yves Cousteau . Since 1959, Baudo only worked as a conductor. In 1962 he became known to a wider public when, on the recommendation of Herbert von Karajan, he conducted Claude Debussy's opera Pelléas et Mélisande at La Scala in Milan . He celebrated further successes for several years at the Aix-en-Provence Music Festival . From 1970 to 1988 he was music director of the Orchester National de Lyon . Baudo also campaigned for the work of Hector Berlioz by dedicating a festival in Lyon to the French composer . From 1998 Serge Baudo conducted numerous international orchestras. He has repeatedly directed performances at the Vienna State Opera . Since 2001 he has been music director of the Prague Symphony Orchestra .
On March 6, 2004 the asteroid (36235) Sergebaudo was named after him.
