The Foundling is a film from 2000 . The film is based on the novel Sans famille (German title: Heimatlos ) by Hector Malot .

action

At Malot's, the boy Remi is kidnapped and, out of necessity, sold to a traveling musician by his adoptive parents. The boy moves across the country with him, his three dogs and a monkey. In a moving chapter, traveling musician Vitalis is recognized by a beautiful lady as the former opera star Vitalo Pedrotti. Meanwhile, the little monkey Joli Coeur dies in his bed. When Remi meets the handicapped Countess Johanna, he has no idea that she is his real mother. Her brother Georg once had Remi kidnapped and now wants to kill the child in order to secure his inheritance.

backgrounds

The German first broadcast took place at Christmas 2004 on ARD . The 130-minute German version has been shortened by around 50 minutes, so that there are some logic gaps. In contrast to the original, the character Johanna von Strauberg played by Veronica Ferres takes on a central leading role here. The film was released on DVD in March 2010.

criticism

"Exciting historical film based on the classic novel by Hector Malot for the whole family."
