The Scattered is a French comedy film from 1970 starring Pierre Richard , who also wrote the script together with André Ruellan and directed it himself for the first time.

action

The hopelessly absent-minded Pierre Malaquet, as an employee of an advertising agency, regularly drives his boss to despair with his crazy, sometimes macabre ideas. Since agency owner Guiton is madly in love with Pierre's mother, he has no choice but to keep him busy. Although Malaquet is only entrusted with the simplest tasks at work, his exuberant, often clumsy manner ensures that there are always new entanglements and irritations even with the agency's top-class clients. So he accidentally ends up at a party in the house of the entrepreneur Gastier and initially entertains the guests with cheerful jokes, but the evening ends catastrophically with considerable property damage.

Malaquet is then banished to the agency's most remote office. There he met the no less absent-minded Monsieur Klerdène and developed an advertising campaign for the toothpaste manufacturer that caused quite a stir. Malaquets next promotion with the slogan Bravo Clistax! even triggers riots on the streets of Paris and leads to a police operation. When Malaquet finally overstepped the curve and Guiton had to fear for the reputation of his agency and its existence, he fired Malaquet without notice. He has now discovered his heart for Lisa, the secretary of his boss, and sets out to confess his love to her. Pierre's mother is finally able to persuade Guiton to give her son one more chance and send him and Lisa to one of the agency's offices in the USA . On the way there, Malaquet leaves the machine again shortly before the start. The film ends with a quote from Jean de La Bruyères Caractères and shows a confused Pierre Malaquet running behind the plane.

background

The Scattered hit French cinemas in December 1970. With the comedy, Pierre Richard had his breakthrough as a comedian. The film did not open until August 1974 in the Federal Republic of Germany and was first broadcast on television on February 8, 1975 in the ARD program. In the opening and closing credits of the film, the letter "I" in the form of a cartoon character completes the lettering with the names of the participants.

criticism

“A turbulent comedy in the tradition of slapstick comedies that satirically targets the hype. With a lot of gags, but sometimes a bit dull and not without length. "

"85 percent failed, the remainder is not enough to save the 90-minute film."
