Gérard Lauzier (born November 30, 1932 in Marseille , † December 6, 2008 in Paris ) was a French filmmaker and author and illustrator of socially critical comics and plays.

Life

After studying philosophy and architecture in Paris, Lauzier first worked as a draftsman in the Perret et Lagneaux studio . After a three-month holiday in Brazil, he moved there for a few years (1956 to 1964). He worked here as a cartoonist for the Journal de Bahia magazine . In 1965 he returned to France and made caricatures for various magazines.

In 1974 he wrote and drew his first comic Lili Fatal , which was published by Dargaud . More work followed, mainly for pilots , but also z. B. for Lui ( Zizi and Peter Panpan ) . In the 1980s he also began writing plays and screenplays. Sometimes he also directed. His film comedy Kleiner Spinner , which is also available as a comic, became famous. Lauzier's My Father, the Hero with Gérard Depardieu in the leading role was so successful that the film was remade in Hollywood with the same leading actor (by a different director) .

In 1993, Lauzier won the Grand Prix de la Ville d'Angoulême at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême .
