Murray Head
Murray Seafield Saint-George Head (born March 5, 1946 in London ) is a British actor and singer .
Life
Head is the son of the British documentary filmmaker Seafield Head (1919-2009) and the actress Helen Shingler (1919-2019). His younger brother is the actor Anthony Stewart Head .
Head began acting and writing songs as a teenager. In the mid-1960s he received a recording deal in London . However, his success was initially rather moderate.
His breakthrough came in 1970 when Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber hired him to play Judas Iscariot in their musical Jesus Christ Superstar . In 1971, he starred alongside Peter Finch and Glenda Jackson in the four Academy Award nominees Sunday, Bloody Sunday by John Schlesinger . In 1975 he recorded the song Say It Ain't So Joe , which was a popular insider tip, especially on the radio.
Despite a few roles and record releases, Head disappeared from the public eye for more than ten years. In 1984 he celebrated a successful comeback as the star of the musical Chess penned by Tim Rice and the former ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus . The song One Night in Bangkok from the musical conquered the top of the international charts and finished in January 1985 and in Germany two weeks number 1 of singles charts.
Murray Head's music deals primarily with interpersonal issues and does not ignore political statements. However, the texts are never eye-catching, but always describe your topic from a personal point of view. The most striking feature of his music is the very versatile voice, which offers many forms of expression both in pitch and articulation.
