Jean-Pierre Bacri (born May 24, 1951 in Castiglione, today's Bou Ismaïl , Algeria , † January 18, 2021 ) was a French actor and screenwriter .

biography

Jean-Pierre Bacri was one of the so-called pied noirs , the Algerian French, who had settled in Algeria from 1830. In 1962 he emigrated to Cannes with his Jewish family as a result of the Algerian War . Originally he wanted to become a teacher of Latin and French, but instead decided to work in the advertising industry in Paris. He began to study acting at the prestigious Paris Cours Simon . He then played theater and made his film debut as an anesthesiologist in the 1979 war drama Weapon of the Devil alongside Alain Delon and directed by Pierre Granier-DeferreVéronique Jannot .

During his career, Bacri was nominated ten times for the French César film award. It won four of its five nominations for Best Screenplay , for Smoking / No Smoking , Typically Family! , Life is a chanson and a desire for other things . He was also named Best Supporting Actor in 1998 for his portrayal of Nicolas in Das Leben ist ein Chanson , which won him one of his two nominations in this category. He and his partner at the time, Agnès Jaoui, were also at the European Film Awards for Life is a Chanson , Desire for Other and Look at Me! nominated for Best Screenplay ; for the last two films they received the award.

He died in January 2021 at the age of 69 from complications from a protracted cancer .
