Antoine de Caunes will host the award gala for the ninth time

The 38th César Awards ceremony took place on February 22, 2013 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris . The film prizes awarded by the French Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma were awarded in 21 categories. An honorary award was given separately. The French actor and comedian Jamel Debbouze took over the chairmanship of the gala, which changes every year . As host ( maître de cérémonie ) Antoine de Caunes led through the evening . The French actor had hosted the event eight times in the past.

Michael Haneke's relationship drama Love prevailed as the best film of the year, winning a total of five out of ten nominated categories. The tragic comedy Camille - In Love Again! , which Noémie Lvovsky directed and also starred. The film about a 40-year-old who passed out on New Year's Eve and woke up again in her 1980s teenage years had received thirteen nominations in the run-up. The production replaced Place Vendôme (1999 twelve unsuccessful nominations) as the most frequently nominated film without a win in the history of the César Awards.

The award ceremony was broadcast live on the French television channel Canal + . It was dedicated to the late filmmakers Daniel Toscan du Plantier (1941–2003) and Maurice Pialat (1925–2003).
