Joachim Trier

Joachim Trier (* 1974 in Copenhagen ) is a Norwegian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Joachim Trier was born in 1974 in the Danish capital Copenhagen , but grew up in the Norwegian capital Oslo . Trier is the son of jazz musician Jacob Trier, who worked as a sound engineer for the 1975 film Hintertupfinger Grand Prix , which is considered the most successful Norwegian film of all time. His mother made short films and his grandfather Erik Løchen was a Norwegian filmmaker whose 1959 debut film Jakten was shown in official competition at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival. Joachim Trier is also related to the Danish director Lars von Trier .

Trier attended the British National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield . Trier graduated from the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark.

In In the beginning of 2006 is Trier's first feature film. His film Oslo, August 31st , which he presented in May 2011 at the Cannes International Film Festival, won the Stockholm International Film Festival's award for Best Cinematography and the Bronze Horse for Best Film in the same year In 2013 in the race for a César in the category Best Foreign Language Film .

Trier's film Thelma premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017 . In addition, this film was nominated by Norway as a candidate in the category Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards 2018 , but did not make it into the preselection .

At the end of June 2018, Trier became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
