The state-run National Film and Television School (NFTS) in Beaconsfield (near London ) is considered the most important film school in Great Britain and one of the world's most respected film and media institutions.

Since it was founded in 1971, the NFTS has been teaching a highly practice-oriented diploma and master’s program, including in the subjects of directing , screenplay , camera , editing , production design , film music , sound , animation film and production .

Numerous personalities from the film and television industry, such as Stephen Frears (director), Simon Beaufoy (screenplay), Brian Tufano (camera) and Kim Longinotto (documentary film), as well as many international guest lecturers , including Ken Loach , Robert Altman , Jim, give lectures at the NFTS Jarmusch , Atom Egoyan , Michael Winterbottom , Thomas Vinterberg , Spike Lee and Danny Boyle .

In 2014, the American magazine The Hollywood Reporter voted NFTS the best of a total of 15 international film schools ".

The NFTS is funded and sponsored by the UK Government's Department of Culture, Media and Sport. Other important partnerships exist with the BBC , ITV , Channel Four and BSkyB as well as the film studios UIP and Warner Bros.

The director is the British film producer Nik Powell. President is Lord Richard Attenborough .
