Bernard Rose (born August 4, 1960 in London , England ) is a British film director. His films include Candyman's Fluch , Ludwig van B. - My immortal beloved and Anna Karenina .

Rose started making Super 8 films at the age of nine . In 1975 he won an amateur filmmaking competition advertised by the BBC , which gave him the opportunity to broadcast his previous recordings. He worked for Jim Henson on the final season of the Muppet Show and on his film The Dark Crystal . He received his Masters from the National Film and Television School in 1982 and then worked as a director of music videos for MTV .

In 1988 he made his first feature film with Paperhouse . He had his breakthrough in 1992 with the horror film Candyman's Curse, which has now become a cult . His next film project was Ludwig van B. - My Immortal Beloved , in which he also worked on the script, followed by Anna Karenina with Sophie Marceau in the lead role. With his modern film adaptation of Tolstoy's novella Die Kreutzer Sonata , Rose succeeded in creating a thematic link between the Russian writer and Ludwig van Beethoven, who had previously provided the inspiration for two of his most important films.

In 2012 Rose directed the German-Italian coproduction Der Teufelsgeiger about the life of the violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini . The film, starring David Garrett , was released in German cinemas in November 2013.
