content

Anna is an eleven year old girl who is on the threshold of puberty. During school lessons she draws a crooked house in a barren landscape in her exercise book. The first signs of a serious illness are several fainting spells, in which Anna finds herself in the dream at the very house that she has drawn. Anna will have to stay in bed for a few days - reluctantly. She discovers that through her drawings she can influence her dreams. So she makes the boy Marc the resident of her paper house. Since she simply drew a face in the window, Marc cannot walk - Anna did not paint his legs. Anna's doctor tells her about a boy who is suffering from muscle wasting and who has drawn a much worse lot than Anna. Anna is convinced that this boy is the same Marc whose fate she has in her hand through her drawings in her dream world. So not only does she draw him everything he needs, but she also paints her father in the picture, who works abroad in the real world. Anna hopes that in a dream he will appear as a savior for Marc. But a lot gets mixed up in Anna's confused drawings, so that her father does not appear as a saving savior, but as a hammer-wielding madman. The boundaries between fantasy and reality are becoming more and more blurred.

The novel Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr has already been filmed in front of Paperhouse . In 1972, a six-part mini-series called Escape Into Night was produced in Great Britain by ATV (Associated Television).

During the re-examination for the German DVD release, the original FSK approval was increased from 12 years to 16 years.

Reviews

“An ambitious psychodrama that dispenses with horror effects that are useful in itself, but is not psychologically mature; The debut film is also not convincing in terms of design. "( Lexicon of International Films )
