Catherine Storr
Catherine Storr (born July 21, 1913 in London ; † January 6, 2001 there ) was an English children's book author .
Life
She studied English Literature at the Newnham College of the University of Cambridge and later medicine and psychiatry . She practiced as a psychiatrist in London hospitals for 15 years in the 1950s and early 1960s before becoming editor at Penguin Books . During this time she began to develop her own stories. She has published over 30 children's books and some novels for adults.
Her best-known work, Marianne dreams, is about the dreams of a little girl who is tied to the bed for two months. The novel was processed several times for film , radio and television. In 1972 it appeared as a television series on the British broadcaster ITV under the title Escape Into Night and in 1988 as a film under the title Paperhouse .
Storr was first married to the writer and psychiatrist Anthony Storr with whom they had three children. In 1970 she married the Hungarian economist Thomas Balogh .
