Stanley Myers

Stanley Myers (born October 6, 1933 in Birmingham , † November 9, 1993 in London ) was a British composer . He composed the film music for more than 100 films.

Life

The largest He achieved fame with Cavatina , a piece for guitar (originally for piano), which for Michael Cimino's film The Deer Hunter (The Deer Hunter) is from the year 1978, the musical accompaniment. Myers won the Ivor Novello Award for this song, also known as The Theme from The Deer Hunter . He originally wrote this song in 1970 for Eric Till's film Die Krücke ( The Walking Stick ), in which it is interpreted by guitarist John Williams . Cavatina is considered difficult to play despite its calm and simple melody.

In the 1980s, Myers worked frequently for films directed by Stephen Frears . For his music for The Stormy Life of Joe Orton from 1987, he won the award for "Best Artistic Performance" at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival .

Myers died of cancer in 1993.
