John Williams

John Christopher Williams (born April 24, 1941 in Melbourne ) is an Australian guitarist .

Life

John Williams learned the guitar from his father Len. In 1952 the family moved to London . There he met the guitarist Andrés Segovia . This took Williams as a student and sent him to the Academia Musicale di Siena for five years . Williams later studied piano and music theory at the Royal College of Music .

In 1958 he made his debut at London's Wigmore Hall .

John Williams plays a very wide range of music of all possible styles from classical guitar , jazz and rock . In July 1969 he performed with Barney Kessel at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club . He performed very often with Julian Bream . In 1975 he published his album with his own arrangements of Bach's lute works . Between 1978 and 1984 he also played in the band Sky , which adapted titles from classical music to rock music.

So far Williams has used guitars from Paulino Bernabe , Greg Smallman and Ignacio Fleta in his concerts and recordings .

The jazz pianist Kate Williams is his daughter.
