Synchronous line regenerator

Synchronous line regenerator is the type designation used by Deutsche Telekom AG for regenerators for SDH networks (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy). In PDH technology (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy), the task of a regenerator is essentially limited to regenerating the received line signal in terms of time and amplitude, checking the code rules (as a quality feature of the transmission quality ) and supporting a fault location process . A service channel for service purposes may still be available. The signal content is transparently switched through during regeneration in the PDH network, regardless of any existing signal formats or frames.

In SDH technology, the task is much more extensive. The signals are descrambled and examined for the STM -N frame structures (Synchronous Transport Module). Since a regenerator section ends at the synchronous line generator, part of the SOH (RSOH, lines 1–3) (Start of Heading) is terminated and the transmission quality is determined by byte B1, the management information is evaluated and the user and service channels are made available at device interfaces . Then a new RSOH is formed and the SOH is completed with it. From here a new regenerator section begins. The fault location is generally performed by a management system from the information received from all devices involved.

Abbreviations for the line regenerators are SLA-4 (for STM-4 lines), SLA-16 (for STM-16 lines).
