action

South Africa during the apartheid era : In Cape Town, political prisoner Shack Twala is released after a ten-year prison sentence, apparently at the instigation of his lawyer Rina Van Niekirk. A few moments after his release, the police tried to arrest Shack again. Shack and Rina escape with the help of a British engineer friend, Jim Keogh. Shack and Jim must now flee South Africa, but Jim insists on taking the route via Johannesburg, 900 miles away.

The two fugitives are being followed by Major Horn, a state security officer . Horn kills a white man who helped the two and continues to follow the trail of the fugitives. Jim learns that Shack is the vice-chairman of the civil rights organization Black Congress, which campaigns for the abolition of apartheid. They finally arrive in Johannesburg , and Shack visits the dentist Mukarjee, to whom he had entrusted a large quantity of rough diamonds for safekeeping before his imprisonment. He takes the diamonds back because he needs them to finance the activities of "Black Congress".

As agreed, Shack and Jim meet up with Rina again in Johannesburg. She forces her husband Blane, who is separated from her, to fly all over the border to Botswana. You arrive safely and are welcomed by Wilby, chairman of Black Congress. But Horn also arrives, determined to take Wilby with him to South Africa to try him there. Horn reveals to Jim and Shack that the release from prison was only fake and that he gave them both to escape so they can lead him to Wilby. However, members of "Black Congress" can thwart Horn's plan and kill his men. Realizing that Horn won't stop chasing them, Jim realizes that he can no longer be impartial himself and kills Horn. It turns out that the diamonds are fakes.

Reviews

"Harsh indictment of South African racial politics in the guise of an adventure film."

"At the beginning of the film, when the causes of the escape and persecution are portrayed that make up most of the plot, it seems that The Wilby Conspiracy will take itself seriously and could become one of the first American films to be clearly opposed positioned apartheid. He actually takes himself seriously, where the plot calls for it, but never too pregnant with meaning, because The Wilby Conspiracy is ultimately a good conventional chase in a new guise and a departure from the usual racial clichés. The best thing about this film, which was shot mostly in Kenya, is the performance of its actors, cool and confident, in the style of TV stars who love to play in front of a loyal fan base. "

The Wilby Conspiracy is a good action-packed melodrama about apartheid in South Africa. The film was shot in Kenya. The actors Sidney Poitier and Michael Caine are tirelessly pursued by Nicol Williamson, who is great in the role of the cold, persistent and brutal cop. "
