Persis Khambatta
Persis Khambatta (born October 2, 1948 in Bombay , Maharashtra , † August 18, 1998 ibid) was an Indian model and actress .
Life
Persis Khambatta was elected Miss India as early as 1965 . This title paved her way into the modeling world, for example she was a model for the cosmetics manufacturer Revlon .
For her acting debut in the Indian feature film Bombai Raat Ke Bahon Mein (1968) by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas , she received a critics award for best young actress and was the first Miss India to gain a foothold as an actress in Bollywood after her election .
In 1975 she got her first major international film role from Ralph Nelson alongside Michael Caine in the thriller The Wilby Conspiracy . Her better-known films include the drama Shame of the Regiment (with Michael York ), the action thriller Nachtfalken (with Sylvester Stallone ), and Star Trek: The Movie . She even had her head shaved for her role as Lieutenant Ilia . In addition, Khambatta made guest appearances in various television series such as Hunter , MacGyver , Mike Hammer and in 1993 in her last television role in the pilot of Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark .
She then moved back to India, where she became socially active and wrote the book Pride of India about the success of women who had been given the title Miss India before her . She dedicated this work to Mother Teresa .
In the early 1980s, Persis Khambatta was diagnosed with heart disease and was bypassed . In 1998 she died suddenly of a heart attack at the Marine Hospital in Mumbai .
