Brigitte Kaethe Grothum (born February 26, 1935 in Dessau ) is a German actress , voice actress , film producer and director .

Life

Brigitte Grothum was born in Dessau in 1935 and moved to Berlin at the age of 15 . She graduated from high school at the Ricarda-Huch-Schule in Berlin-Charlottenburg and then began acting training with Marlise Ludwig and Herma Clement . At first she mainly played theater on various Berlin stages. Later, despite many engagements in radio and film, she kept coming back to the stage.

In 1955 she was in front of the camera in Maturing Youth for the first time, the following year she played Marion in the equestrian drama Prize of Nations (Das Mädchen Marion) . Brigitte Grothum was best known in 1961 for her leading role in the Edgar Wallace film The Strange Countess at the side of Klaus Kinski , with whom she was also a private friend at the time. Further Wallace adaptations followed The Inn on the Thames and The Curse of the Yellow Snake . In 1966 and 1967 she appeared at the Salzburg Festival as Hermia in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream , directed by Leopold Lindtberg . Grothum was seen in over 100 different productions on television. Her longest television engagement was as Magda Färber in the early-evening TV series Drei Damen vom Grill , where she played alongside Brigitte Mira , Gabriele Schramm , Günter Pfitzmann and Harald Juhnke .

In 1987, Grothum directed the mystery play Jedermann by Hugo von Hofmannsthal , which was performed every autumn in the Berlin Cathedral . She also took on the allegorical role of faith in all performances . The Berliner Jedermann-Festspiele existed until 2014, always produced and staged by Grothum.

In addition, the actress was active in the dubbing from 1957 and lent her voice to prominent colleagues such as Lee Remick (They Want To Be Giants) , Diane Keaton (The Sleeper) , Barbara Eden ( Company Fire Belt ) , Virginia Mayo ( Submachine Guns ) , Diana Rigg as Emma Peel in With Umbrella, Charm and Bowler Hat or Debbie Watson as Tammy in the TV series Tammy, the girl from the houseboat . In Die Halbstarken she dubbed Karin Baal , who had never been in front of a camera before and who had no other acting experience.

In addition to her film roles, Brigitte Grothum has also appeared repeatedly on German theater stages, most recently in 2011 and 2012 in Berlin and Hamburg in the very successful theater production of Calendar Girls . From June 21 to July 2, 2012 she played Gertrud Mahlbeck from episodes 30 to 36 in the ZDF telenovela Paths to Happiness - Traces in the Sand and was seen again in this role from episode 69 to 74.

She is the niece of the German aviation pioneer Hans Grade . She was married to the orthopedic surgeon Manfred Weigert from Bavaria until his death on December 15, 2019; the marriage resulted in two children. She lives in Berlin-Nikolassee . Her daughter Debora Weigert is also an actress.
