Reviews

“In the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Sampat Pal fights in an impressive, clever and self-confident way against the forced marriages of young girls, the violence against women in families, the humiliation of the“ untouchables ”, who are still deprived of the simplest rights. The way Sampat Pal does this is one of great courage and sometimes great disrespect for men, society and religion. Pink Saris is one of the most vibrant, powerful documentaries of the year, cinematic news that no one should overlook. "

“The second film,“ Pink Saris ”(2010), also focuses on a strong woman: Sampat Pal, the founder of the Gulabi Gang, a group of women who, in pink clothing, help themselves and others to justice. However, this film only focuses on one person - and so it is good that one learns in a book article that the Gulabi Gang is not a one-woman show, but has already reached the middle class: As a supporter of the fundamentalist Hindu group in 2009 Sri Ram Sena beat schoolgirls ready for hospital use, called a "Pink Underwear Resistance" on the Internet to protest with pink-colored knickers ("already used if possible"). The Sri Ram Sena office sank into 20,000 pink underpants. "
