Dario Marianelli

Dario Marianelli (born June 21, 1963 in Pisa ) is an Italian film music composer .

Life

Marianelli first studied piano and composition in Florence and London . After graduation, he worked for a year as a composer at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London . There he headed the Contemporary Music Society (society for contemporary music). Thanks to several scholarships (including from the Gulbenkian Foundation ) he took courses with Judith Weir and Lloyd Newson and studied from 1994 to 1997 at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield near London.

In 1994 he began to provide musical accompaniment to film productions. His first work was the music for the 1994 film Models Required . His best-known works include the setting of Pride and Prejudice , September , V for Vendetta and Brothers Grimm . He also composed the music for numerous documentaries , animated films , for theater, dance events and concerts.

In 1997 he received the Benjamin Britten Composition Prize. For the music to Joe Wright's Pride and Prejudice , he was nominated at the 2006 Academy Awards for Best Score. In 2008 he received the Golden Globe Award and the Oscar for the music for Joe Wright's film Atonement and was nominated for the 2008 European Film Awards.
