Nicholas Broomfield (born January 30, 1948 in London ) is a British documentary filmmaker .

Life

Broomfield has been at the University of Cardiff Law, at the University of Essex Political Science and the School National Film and Television Film Studies studied.

Broomfield usually works with a very small crew on his documentaries, often just him and one or two cameramen. He is then also responsible for the sound during filming. It began in the 1970s in the style of cinéma verite . Over time his style changed. He now appears in his documentaries himself and is also part of the stories, much like Michael Moore . Expert interviews are rarely used. The topics he works on are mostly social, but very different. He has made documentaries on more tabloid topics such as the murders of US rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG or Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love . But he also deals with topics such as the Iraq conflict or serial killers.
