content
A unit of the United States Marine Corps , led by Cpl. Ramirez, the former Iraqi soldier Ahmad and the boy Jafer as well as the Iraqi lovers Hadid and Rashied make up the three interwoven storylines of the film. In exchange for money for al-Qaeda terrorists, Ahmad and Jafer set a booby-trap in a street next to the house of Rashied's family, where Hadid also lives. They covertly wait for an opportunity to detonate them and thereby endanger the civilian population living nearby, who learn about it but remain silent for fear of terrorist retaliation. Ramirez's convoy approaches the booby trap. Just before the booby trap was detonated, the marines signaled a taxi to stop. Ahmad detonates the device that kills a US Marine. The Marines engage in a gun battle with Ahmad and Jafer, who manage to escape. Then Ramirez lets the occupants of the taxi get out and shoots them. Under his leadership, the marines storm the neighboring houses and cause a massacre among the residents. Rashied is also shot running to his family home to check on Hadid. Ramirez has difficulties processing what he has experienced. Together with three other marines, he later has to answer for his actions.
